Reflecting on God’s Faithfulness as We Progress Through the Academic Year

Dear Friends, Partners, and Supporters of ISTL Albania,

As we journey through the first semester of the 2024–2025 academic year, our hearts are full of gratitude for God’s continued blessings. This season has been marked by growth, fellowship, and the transformative work of the Holy Spirit. From inspiring courses to life-changing conferences, we are reminded of the beauty and impact of equipping leaders for His kingdom.

A Growing Family of Learners

This year, we’ve been thrilled to welcome students from across Albania, including Shkodra and Fushë Kruja. Their commitment is remarkable—some travel 2–4 hours each way to attend classes! This dedication reflects their passion for the Word of God and their desire to grow in their calling.

One of our students, Violeta, shared her inspiring testimony:

“Ten years ago, I deeply desired to study at a theological school. I heard about ISTL from friends, and when I joined, it felt like God was fulfilling a long-held dream. At ISTL, I’ve discovered so much more about God and grown in ways I never expected. It’s truly a privilege and a blessing to be part of this family.”

Her story and others like it remind us of why ISTL exists—to equip and transform lives for ministry and kingdom work.

The Academic Year Begins with a Strong Foundation

The first week of classes laid the groundwork for a year of spiritual and intellectual growth:

  • Life and Teachings of Christ (Dr. Terri Young) introduced First-Year students to the richness of Jesus’ ministry and message.
  • Church Planting (Erion Cuni, M.A.) challenged Second-Year students to think deeply about how to establish and grow local churches.
  • Pastoral Care (Dr. Steve Paulus) emphasized the importance of servant leadership for Third-Year students, providing tools to care for God’s people effectively.

These courses reflect ISTL’s commitment to a holistic education that prepares students not only academically but also spiritually.

Student Conference: Leadership in Focus

From November 21–23, our students and staff gathered by the beach in Durrës for our annual conference. This year’s theme, Leadership: The Phases of a Leader’s Development, explored how God shapes leaders for His purposes.

Key speakers included:

  • Adrian van der Maas, ISTL Academic Dean
  • Hervin Fushekati, ISTL Executive Director
  • Tomor Ajeti, Pastor, Missionary, and former ISTL student

The sessions were deeply impactful, helping students identify the stages of their leadership journey and understand God’s calling for their lives.

But the conference wasn’t just about lectures—it was a time for worship, fellowship, and fun! Highlights included small group discussions, a talent show, and traditional Albanian dancing. The bonds formed during this time were invaluable, strengthening our ISTL community and reminding us of the joy of walking this journey together.

A Global Perspective: Lausanne Movement Gathering

This September, ISTL was represented at the Lausanne Movement gathering in Seoul, South Korea. Over 5,000 evangelical leaders from 200+ countries came together to celebrate 50 years of this global initiative.

Ervehe Ndreca, the ISTL Albania Executive Assistant Director, reflected:

“This experience reignited my passion for advancing the gospel. It was a powerful reminder of the unity and potential of the global Church when we work together for His mission.”

This gathering has inspired us to continue our work with a renewed vision for equipping leaders in Albania and beyond.

Equipping the Church: Publications Update

We are excited to announce the release of Takojmë Jezusin në Stuhi (Finding Jesus in the Storm), a book designed to help readers encounter Christ in life’s most challenging moments. This is just one of many resources ISTL provides to strengthen the body of Christ in Albania and beyond.

Looking Ahead with Anticipation

As we look to the coming months, our vision remains strong—to raise leaders who will impact Albania and the surrounding region for Christ.

We are deeply grateful for the prayers, encouragement, and resources you provide. Your partnership is a vital part of this mission, and we invite you to continue walking alongside us as we equip the next generation of Christian leaders.

This Christmas season, we reflect on Psalm 37:4—“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” May this truth encourage you as much as it encourages us.

Thank you for being part of the ISTL Albania family. May your Christmas be filled with joy, peace, and the blessings of His presence.

With Gratitude,
The ISTL Albania Team
