ISTL Albania End-of-Year Newsletter

Proverbs 2:6 (NIV)

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

Greetings from Adi

Dear ISTL Albania Community,
At the end of this academic year, I congratulate all students on their achievements. For many, maintaining their studies has not always been easy, especially for those with long working hours, intensive studies, or a busy family. But despite all these obligations, most students performed very well. Their efforts and perseverance have brought them to the end of this year.

Throughout the year, they have studied the scriptures, explored theological truths, and grown spiritually and intellectually. In addition to their studies, they have been involved in practical activities in their church and group mentoring. I pray that the students have grown academically and, most importantly, have strengthened their relationship with Jesus and thus become better-equipped leaders.

I want to thank the teachers who gave their time to provide the students with their knowledge and years of experience. It was a pleasure to welcome them to our school, and we hope many of them plan to return in the new academic year. The ISTL staff worked extremely hard and were very dedicated to their work. Without them, we would never have been able to achieve any of this.

I wish everyone a good time of rest and refreshment.

“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful and do all that is written in it. Then you will prosper and be successful.” – Joshua 1:8

As we stand on the brink of a new season, we look back with hearts full of gratitude and awe at the journey we have traveled together. This year has been a testament to God’s unending grace and the strength of our community. Allow me to take you through the chapters of our story, rich with milestones, challenges, and blessings.

A Year of Milestones and Memories

The academic year began with a jubilant celebration of ISTL Albania’s 15th anniversary. This wasn’t just an event but a commemoration of our collective dedication and God’s faithfulness. We honored the graduation of 23 students, each one a beacon of our mission. Adding to our joy was the accreditation of our institution and bachelor’s program. This significant achievement drew 35 new students to our fold, eager to embark on their theological journey. If you wish to revisit this joyous occasion, I encourage you to view the video shared in our September bulletin.

Academic and Spiritual Enrichment

This year, our academic journey was illuminated by 28 classes, each a beacon of knowledge and spiritual growth. Our esteemed teachers, including Hervin Fushekati, Dr. Terri Young, Aad van den Mass, Dr. Steve Woodworth, Erion Cuni, Bob Hasty, Arjan Larashi, Ton Vegt, Peter Maris, Dr. Frank Mclean, Jonida Osmani, Rev. Tim Chariot, Phil Arbon, Dr. Frank Dicken, Dr. Paul Pascoal, Wes Boldt, Stanley Pede, Enxhi Tashi, Kevin Mangum, and Dr. Jozsef Stainer, brought not only their expertise but also their hearts to their teaching.

Special recognition goes to Enxhi Tashi and Jonida Osmani, our academic assistants, who taught courses on Authentic Leadership and Church History. Their contribution highlights our commitment to nurturing a new generation of theological educators in Albania.

One particularly impactful course was Introduction to Leadership, led by Wes Boldt and Paul Pascoal. Their teachings left a deep impression on our students, as reflected in the words of first-year student Sara Vasku:

“It is amazing how a five-day course can change your perspective on seeing things in ministry and how you see yourself. My heart is full of joy and gratitude, and I can’t wait to see what God has for me in His plan next!”

Conferences: A Gathering of Minds and Hearts

This year we marked a significant milestone by hosting two conferences, emphasizing the importance of unity and shared learning. Following our 15th-anniversary celebration and student conference in November, we held the Naga Mission Conference from May 14-16, 2024. This mission-focused conference, true to its name, featured a program filled with inspiring speeches and hands-on workshops dedicated to the theme of mission work. The conference was a vibrant tapestry of shared knowledge, and if you missed it, we encourage you to watch the highlights in the video we’ve prepared.

Expanding Our Horizons

Our participation in a workshop on micro-credentials, offered by ECTE, has opened new doors for flexible and accessible theological education. Though we are still in the early stages, the potential for this initiative is vast, and we ask for your prayers as we navigate this new venture.

Moreover, we have enriched our academic resources with three significant publications:

  • Recovering Christian Character by Robert C. Roberts
  • Insurgence by Frank Viola
  • Power in Weakness by Timothy Gombis
  • Finding Jesus in the Storm by John Swinton (will be published in August)

These books add depth to our library and serve as invaluable resources for our students and the broader Christian community in Albania. We seek your continued support for further translations and publications to sustain this vital work.

Looking to the Future

As we prepare for the graduation of 12 students this year, our hearts are full of hope and anticipation for the future. We are excited to welcome new and returning students on October 14 and continue our mission with renewed vigor. Your support for scholarships and the development of our new building is crucial, and we are deeply grateful for every contribution.
